The Sea Commercial Port of Illichevsk is one of the largest ports in the Ukraine and a main port for containers, general cargo and steel handling. The Port provides direct ferry services across the Black Sea to Bulgaria and Georgia and is a crucial node on the East-West and North South corridors: Europe, Russia, Ukraine, the Mediterranean Sea into Atlantic or Indian oceans.

• Euro-Asian transport corridor (TRACECA);
• Cretan Corridor #9;
• Circular transport corridor around the Black Sea, linking the countries of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation;
• Baltic – Black Sea Transport corridor;
• In addition, the Port connects the TEN Corridors with TRACECA.

The Port of Illichevsk has applied for an EBRD loan to rehabilitate the port infrastructure. Within the scope of this loan, Royal Haskoning carried out a corporate development programme for the Port of Illichevsk that included: the development of a 5 year Strategy and Business Plan, developing PPP (public private partnership) arrangements that lead to public-private funding of expansion schemes, and restructuring of the port’s financial accounts to international IFRS standards.
