Royal Haskoning and Mecanoo Architects have developed an innovative Town Planning Concept for the prestigious Skolkovo Innovation Centre, Moscow.
The prestigious project Skolkovo Innovation Centre, supervised by Russian President Medvedev, has to re-establish Russia at the world-top of research and has to become a catalyst for the innovation ability and diversification of the Russian economy.
Skolkovo Innovation Centre, the new Russian “Silicon Valley”, is an area of 585 ha that will be developed in phases and where among others a university, research institutes, companies, conference facilities, hotels, leisure, shopping, infrastructure, nature and public transportation facilities will be realized for 20,000 to 30,000 residents and non-residents consisting of top researchers, employees and their families.
The masterplan of Royal Haskoning / Mecanoo organizes all functions and activities in the area as such that unexpected encounters, knowledge-transition and innovation are being stimulated to the maximum extend.
The masterplan is characterized by its campus style layout with compact city-center (the “Connector”). Multi-purpose functions are organized flexible and are being fully internally connected. The standards of working and living are very high and users are being provided with a maximum of comfort and convenience.
The Beyond Sustainability concept links all life-cycles of energy, water and waste into one fully integrated system, eventually leading to an energy-infrastructure that is Zero-Energy-Ready with a potentially carbon beneficial footprint.
This masterplan was developed within the framework of a closed design competition for the concept development and master planning of Skolkovo Innovation Centre. The design of Royal Haskoning / Mecanoo Architects has been awarded the third place, out of 28 (pre-selected) international design companies.
Herewith Royal Haskoning / Mecanoo Architects have pre-qualified to become further involved in this project.
The master was developed with contributions of Michael Braungart (EPEA, CradletoCradle®).
