A small harbour protected by a breakwater has been built for the import of cargo for construction of the facilities required for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.  It is planned to convert this harbour into a yacht marina after the Winter Olympics.

However, the breakwater failed during construction in December 2009 under extreme wave conditions, and a review of the design of the breakwater is being carried out in order to assess the design life and durability of the structure.  The breakwater is a unique piled design.  The assignment covers wave modelling to determine the wave climate at the breakwater, mathematical modelling of wave forces on the breakwater section by Deltares ComFlow model and structural analysis.
